SHOW COMMENTS:

At times I get a lot of flack from the readers of clevelandrockandroll.com about some of my stands on music. One of the stories that caused the most feedback (on both sides of the issue) was the story on Tribute Bands. Some of my readers expressed the opinion that if they don't play their own music they are not a true band, they are living off the backs of the band they are paying tribute too.

Well these readers must have never seen Wish You Were Here play live. This is a band of accomplished musicians that play the music of Pink Floyd and they do it well. It is no secret to my readers that I am a Pink Floyd fan, no a fanatic really and trust me there is nothing worse than hearing someone butcher the music you love and nothing better than a night of great music done right and that is exactly what the 1100+ fans in attendance at the House Of Blues got Saturday night in a show that was over four hours!

When I saw the ad for the show saying they were going to perform in their entirety, three of my favorite Pink Floyd albums Animals, Wish You Were Here and Dark Side Of The Moon. I knew I was in for a great night of music. What I didn't expect and was thrilled to find out was the "extras" the band threw in for us starting out with "Astronomy Domine" and hitting all of the high points for me with songs like "Young Lust", "Coming Back To Life", "Comfortably Numb", "One Of These Day" and I was especially surprised to hear David Gilmour's solo work "No Way Out Of Here" which was the highlight of the night for me.

One thing about Wish You Were Here is not that you are surprised about the musicianship of the players, you expect that from the talent that is assembled on the stage but the vocals of Eric "Eroc" Sosinski and Jamie Combs bring the Pink Floyd sound home and that is an accomplishment.  I have heard many bands play Pink Floyd before, but very, very few can pull it off once the vocals come into play. Look your not going to hear a David Gilmour or Roger Waters impersonation from them, that just doesn't work. Instead you hear Jamie and Eroc's voice compliment the songs and that keeps you wanting more.

Every time I have seen Wish You Were Here live I am impressed by the crowds they attract. There are some national touring acts that would love to have the crowds they bring, but there is a reason for this. Simply, they are good and people don't mind spending their money to hear good music and have a good time and that is exactly  what you get at a Wish You Were Here show. - Bear (clevelandrockandroll.com)
